Like a shooting star, the positive possibilities that were seen are now gone. I refer to the Arab League and it’s embrace of helping a brother tribe, the Libyans. Yes, they finally agreed to help Libya, appealing to the United Nations for a ‘no-fly zone’. This was a feat accompli for the Arabs. All 22 members of the Arab bloc were able to come together and presented their case to the U.N. Security council. I pointed out in my last blog the importance of this development. I was clear that it was important for them to unite and take care of their region and their tribal brothers. I pointed out that they should show the world they were capable of putting their money, military and lives on the line, rather then expecting the world to do their dirty work. They have the resources to take responsibility of the air defense and manage the ‘no-fly zone‘. Now, instead of seeing Arabs protecting Arabs, we see French & American military doing the Arabs dirty work. Once again we are faced with the responsibility of investing American lives, money and military might. Once again we will be labeled mercenaries. Mercenaries get paid, wake up America it’s happening again. I say the Arabs should be sending each and every American a ‘Get Gas Free’ card. That would be a start. Already there is grumbling from the Arab bloc that we have mistakenly targeted citizens. I say tell them to do the job themselves. Over and over we have seen the results of our good intentions twisted into a parody. Recent events in Iraq should be fresh enough for us to know better. Before the self serving and destructive politicians made a mockery of our efforts in Iraq, I can remember the endless reports of barbaric crimes committed by Saddam Hussein. We were presented with pictures of thousands of Kurds gassed. We were told of the brutality the people of Iraq had to endure. The beatings, the rapes, the tortures. During this nightly news fest of disturbing horror stories against the people, Americans united in their shock and sadness for these people. I, as an American, wanted this inhumane abuse to be stopped. We were led to believe the people of Iraq needed our help and wanted us to liberate them. In the beginning, it wasn’t about ‘a hunt for weapons of mass destruction‘. Pompous, self interested politicians manipulated that and made a mockery of our values and principals. Insulting us, they let us down. The Iraq stories heard daily, unfolded a pattern of crimes against humanity. It was the continual barbaric crimes on women, minorities and the under-privileged, the blatant disregard for humanity that got us. We the people had heartfelt feelings for the people of Iraq. Yet you know the story going around now. We are not viewed as liberators by the Iraqis. We are disliked for our ‘American ways’. Any American who says ‘it’s important to send our military to the Libyans’, should pack their bags, buy a ticket to Libya and go ‘mano e mano’. That’s the beauty of this American way of life. That’s the beginning of waking the f*** up! See how many people are personally responsible for their words and actions. See how fast they buy a ticket.
The Saudi’s had reached out to us originally with their problem of Saddam and his merry hatemonger’s blowing into Kuwait. They needed us. The Saudi’s have lots of loot they made from their oil stash. Yet we still struggle at home with ever escalating fuel costs. We the people deserve some respect for the willingness to help those who ask. We the people also have a right to expect gratitude for the disruptions these requests cause at home. We the people need to seize this moment. We need to explore fresh possibilities. We the people should demand from the Arab Bloc payment for our services. Let them issue to every American a ’Get Gas Free’ card. This would be a start in helping us for helping them. We the people need a break from being on call for every burp and hiccup around the world. Our American way of life will be preserved only if we demand it. America has been drawn once again into an Arab problem and it’s getting to easy to predict the results. Dazed and confused by the lack of respect the people of Iraq showed for our efforts should be enough for us to start waking up. After much American loss of life and limb for helping the Iraqis we have not gained any respect or appreciation from them or the Arab world. Once again we are being led down a very familiar road. They are a tribe unlike ours. This is a part of the world that still dwells in a distant time long past. They have no respect for peoples individual rights no less those of women. They don’t understand the right to free speech, the right to gather peacefully and voice opinions. They disrespect the right to choose and pray to the God of your choice. They have no respect for the principals that America was founded on. Instead they slither back to their old familiar ways. Once again we are faced with the responsibility of investing our most precious resources, American life, liberty, money and military might. Once again we will be labeled ‘Western Aggressors’, ‘Mercenaries’ and ‘Infidels‘. I say ’Wake the f*** up America’, demand a deal on oil, demand a ‘Get Gas Free’ card or we the people stay the hell out of it.
